DAY 01
IZMIR – PERGAMON – THYATIRA
Pick up from Izmir hotel or Izmir airport. Meet and departure to visit Pergamon (Pergamon Revelation 2:12-17), which represents the outstanding example of urban planning of the Hellenistic period with its monumental architecture, the Acropolis, the Asclepion, which is one of the most important health centers of the period and represents an important step in the history of mankind. Lastly Visit the Red Basilica (St. John’s church). Then drive to Akhisar to visit the Church of ancient Thyatira (Thyatira Revelation 2:18-29 Acts 16:14) which was a commercial and agricultural center on the highway between Troy and Sardes. Thyatira is one of the seven churches of Asia Minor. Thyatira is the location of the 4th letter written to the church from the book of revelations. The “Jezebel” of Revelation resided in this city. Visit The ruins of Thyatira dating back to 3,000 BC. Return to Izmir for dinner and overnight. (L, D)
Day 02
SMYRNA – EPHESUS – PAMUKKALE
Early departure to visit Smyrna(Agora) which is known that apart from their economical , political and religious functions , agoras was also the place where art is concentrated and social events ocur. Walk around the surviving remains in the agora, which were founded in the Hellenistic Period (Smyrna Revelation 2:8-11). The basilica of Smyrna agora is the largest known Roman basilica and it symbolized the community of the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse. Then visit to the unforgettable remains of Ephesus (Ephesus Revelation 1:11:2:1-7 Acts 18:19-28:19), the House of Virgin Mary which is one of the pilgrimage for Christians where she had her recently time and died, the Archaeological Museum and the Basilica of Saint John Church where Apostle John spent his final years and he was buried. Continue to Pamukkale for dinner and overnight at hotel. (B, L, D)
Day 03
HIERAPOLIS – LAODICEA – PHILADELPHIA – SARDES - IZMIR
Morning visit to see Hierapolis, The Martyrium of St. Philip the Apostle where it's believed that St Philip was martyred. The arches of the eight individual chapels here, marked with crosses, originally had heptagonal interiors. Then visit to excellent The ancient city of Laodicea which was founded by Antiochos II in 263-261 BC and named after Antiochos' wife. One of the famous seven churches mentioned in Revelation was located in Laodicea, which shows that Christianity was important here (Laodicea Revelation 3:14-22). Continue to Alasehir where the ancient Philadelphia Church(Philadelphia Revelation 3:7-13) is located. Philadelphia Church is one of the most magnificent monuments of the city. Visit the Philadelphia walls, theater and the temple and walk among the ruins of Philadelphia. After lunch proceed to Sardes (Sardes Revelation 3:1-6), ancient capital of the Lydians which is known as the place where money was first printed under the guarantee of the state in history. Sardes housed magnificent colonnaded avenues, monumental imperial baths, important temples of the Imperial cult, and an arms factory. It is during this period that the citizens of the city built the largest synagogue known in the ancient world. During the fourth century, Sardis became an important Christian center, the site of one of the Seven Churches of Asia. Visit the Church of Sardes and enjoy wandering among the ruins of the most advanced and powerful ancient Greek city. Return to Izmir after the tour. Drop off at Izmir hotel or Izmir airport.
